Our Hours

. . .

The AWLQAC, like most animal shelters, could not function without its volunteers. We rely on volunteers to keep the animals happy while waiting for their new homes, foster animals so that there are more spaces available in the shelter, help fundraise so we can keep our doors open, and help fill a variety of other roles for the organization when needed. By volunteering, even in the smallest way, you are assisting AWLQAC to achieve its ultimate goal – helping animals in need.

Junior Volunteer

  • AWLQAC has junior volunteers from the ages 12-17. Parent/legal guardian must attend orientation and accompany the junior volunteer while on shift. Just because you are under 18 doesn’t mean you can’t help out. You can socialize cats and kittens, puppies 6 months and under, laundry, dishes, or special cleaning projects. You can also hold a shelter donation drive to collect things on our wish list. Another way to help is to have a fundraiser. Bake-sales, car washes, and movie nights are a few examples. A junior volunteer may not handle adult dogs or go into the kennel area unless accompanied by a parent/legal guardian.

All volunteers must attend a Volunteer Orientation.

  • Volunteers must pay $12 per volunteer at orientation to cover the cost of their tee shirt. Shirt must be worn during volunteer shifts.
